Born and raised in London city, Raji Rags (aka Raj Chaudhuri) is considered one of the key tastemakers in his hometown. Refusing to be restricted to a genre or style ‒ Raj has established himself as one of the most pivotal figures in the London music landscape and one of itʼs most trusted DJs in skills and selection.
Behind the decks is where he is most comfortable. He has been a resident on East Londonʼs iconic NTS Radio since it first started, where he has established a firm fanbase for his eclectic tastes and seamless mixing skills across 3 or 4 decks. As well as his solo radio shows, he has legendary b2b mix shows with the likes of Barker (Ostgut Ton), Tim Reaper, Neffa-T, Tash LC, Sonia Calico, Jackmaster, Forest Drive West, Elijah, Charlie Bones and more.
2024 saw him release his debut EP release, ‘Congratulations’. A culmination of his influences merged together, the EP spans breakneck percussive rhythms across five tracks, melding together string arrangements and orchestration with hip-hop methodology. The EP saw praise and support from the likes of Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier, Leon Vynehall, Carista, DBridge.
“The beloved UK artist debuts as a producer with a poignant EP combining his love for gentle IDM, live instrumentation and breakbeat science.”, Resident Advisor
“breakneck percussive rhythms and heavenly orchestral lines urge towards transcendance”, DJ Mag.
A mainstay of the London music scene, previously being Head of Music for Boiler Room, and A&R’d for the likes of Warp Records, R&S Records, Bleep, OTIH records and currently A&Ring for Actress and Batu - Raj is often the go-to person to help shape future trends in electronic music
Raj is a member of the Bubble Chamber collective ‒ a clandestine rave squad that have hosted underground parties in London with the likes of Errorsmith, DJ Assault, Hudson Mohawke, Willow, Barker, Lyzza, Fauzia in non-traditional venues such as pub backrooms, a South London sex dungeon and a converted car garage.
Raj was also a co-founder of Livinʼ Proof ‒ the iconic London hip-hop party and DJ collective that hosted the UK debuts of A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown, and early career performances from the likes of Action Bronson, Schoolboy Q, Joey Badass, A$AP Ferg, Hudson Mohawke and countless others.
The balance between the electronic and hip-hop has been something that has been ever-present in his DJ style. Not many DJs are just as comfortable playing alongside Ben UFO as he is playing for Beyonce (at her Renaissance Paris Fashion Week party in 2022 alongside Arca and Honey Dijon).
Raj is one of the few DJs that you can place in front of any crowd and he will have the skills, knowledge and technical ability to know what to play. Any genre, any crowd, any set-up.
