Born and raised in London city, Raj Chaudhuri (aka Raji Rags) is considered one of the key tastemakers in his hometown both behind the scenes and in front of the decks.
Previous A&R for R&S Records and Bleep, previous Head of Music for Boiler Room, and a since day-one DJ and host for both NTS Radio and Boiler Room right up to present day – with or without knowing it, you have probably seen Raj’s diverse curation and music tastes in action.
With his A&R work, he has released records with the likes of Special Request, Forest Drive West, Karenn (Blawan and Objekt), Objekt, Hudson Mohawke, Flying Lotus, Oneohtrix Point Never, Call Super, TSVI, India Jordan, Autechre, Nosaj Thing, Tessela, and Marcel Dettmann to name a few. With his time at Boiler Room, he was behind some of their most iconic global broadcasts in their formative years. However, it is behind the turntables that Raji Rags feels most at home. Coming from a hip-hop background and translating the skill-set into house, techno and electronic music and recently exploring 3 and 4 deck mixes, he is known for seamlessly exploring different genres and styles.
With his residency on East London’s iconic NTS Radio, he has established a firm fanbase for his eclectic tastes with his solo shows as well as b2b mixes with the likes of Jackmaster, Barker (Ostgut Ton), Forest Drive West, breakfast show host Charlie Bones, and hosting guests on his show such as Hieroglyphic Being, James Holden, Gold Panda, Lone, Untold and more. As a host for Boiler Room, he has interviewed the likes of Peggy Gou, Honey Dijon, Kenny Dope, Octo Octa, Floating Points, and many more.
Raj is a member of the Bubble Chamber collective – a clandestine rave squad that have hosted underground parties with the likes of Errorsmith, DJ Assault, Willow, Barker, Lyzza, Fauzia in non-traditional venues such as pub backrooms, a South London sex dungeon and a converted car garage.
Raj is also a co-founder of Livin’ Proof – the now iconic hip-hop party and DJ collective that have hosted the UK debuts of A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown, and early career performances from the likes of Action Bronson, Schoolboy Q, Joey Badass, A$AP Ferg, Hudson Mohawke and countless others.
Refusing to be restricted to a genre or style – Raj has established himself as one of the most pivotal figures in the London music landscape and one of it’s most trusted DJs in skills and selection.
